St. Johnsville - Susan J. Race, 60, of St. Johnsville passed away peacefully on Monday October 16, 2017 at home with her loving family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born January 15, 1957 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Richard K. and Barbara L. ( Hoffert) Snell and was a graduate of Oppenheim Ephratah High School, Class of 1975. Sue was married to James B. Race on October 10, 2003 in St. Johnsville.

Mrs. Race was employed for Stewart's for over 28 years, working hard through the years to retire with many long lasting friendships.

A woman devoted to her family, Sue's life was centered around her family especially her grandchildren. Her favorite times were going to their school and sporting events and baking them blueberry muffins. She had a passion for gardening and always kept  beautiful flower gardens. While fighting cancer her positivity, courage and love for her family got her through these very tough times. Even through all her chemotherapy treatments, she continued to take care of her family and completed many household projects and also her many exceptional sewing and quilt making projects.

Survivors include her loving husband of 14 years, James; three daughters, Rebecca Wilcox (Scott Starring, Jr.) of St. Johnsville, Marcia Rider of St. Johnsville and Melissa Rider of Little Falls; two sisters, Teresa (Wyatt) Sammons of Oppenheim and Sarah (Thomas) Chapman of St. Johnsville, two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Nathan Herringshaw; two step-children, Adam (Shannon) Race of Clifton Park and Kara (Matthew) Ricotta of Pittsfield, NY; five step-grandchildren, Charlotte and Catherine Race, Michael, Helena and Grayson Ricotta; mother-in-law, Frances Lyons of Johnstown, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins including a special aunt, Bonnie Greenberg who was Sue's inspiration during her illness by keeping her in a positive outlook ; a cousin, Jason Greenberg, who was like a son to her and a cousin, Rosemary Hart who was like another sister.

She was pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Christine Rider.

Sue's memorial service will be held on Sunday October 22, 2017 at 7:30 pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Sunday October 22, 2017 from 5 - 7:30 pm. Graveside service will take place on Monday October 23, 2017 at 10:00 am at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. All contributions in memory of Sue to support cancer research may be made to Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 846168. Boston, MA 02284. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Platt of Schenectady Pulmonary and Dr. Goslin and the nurses and staff of the New York Oncology Hematology for the care and compassion shown to Sue and her family during her illness.
