Actually, I met Paulie in 1962 while attending Utica College in a American History Class. I really didn't like him, as he was tall and good looking while I was short and a little weight challenged ("fat"). He was always getting superior grades in all his subjects, particularly in history, and I didn't! He loved all the four seasons, and enjoyed each to the fullest, and I loved one (certainly not winter!). He was almost always in control of his judgements of others, and I just let mine rip through the air like a sharp sword! Paulie had a certain thoughtful quietness of spirit, while mine was like a ragging bull.. However, in time I learned to not only like him but love him!

I remember going to his home and having some heady conversations of contemporary problems of the day with his heart felt interest in my opinions over a nice glass of red wine and cheese. Paulie was always open to other peoples opinions and ideas. These conversations often lasted to early morning hours, but I
always enjoyed his powerful intellect. He was interested in everything in life, and always wanted to know more.

I feel I have not only lost a decent humane being,, but part of my history with my friend Paulie. Thank you Paulie for sharing your light with me; may I learn from you
that life is to lived with intelligence and compassion
love you.
Angelo.

I am deeply saddened by Paul's passing, he was a friend, a mentor, a true representative of Humanity’s Goodness, and very good at getting lost in the woods.

Karen & family,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. I had seen him several times at the Crum Creek Church community service and had asked about your family. I remember him cross country skiing in the Shuster hayfields on the coldest days of the year. A true outdoorsman!

Prayers to all of you....our fathers were such good friends, and now they are sitting in the teacher's lounge in Heaven having one of their lengthy discussions that they both seemed to enjoy so much. Your Dad was a wonderful person. May he rest in peace.......

Extremely sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Flanders (after I graduated, he always told me to call him "Paul" but it never seemed appropriate. He was always "Mr. Flanders" to me.) He was one of my favorite and most influential teachers I have ever had. He challenged me to grow as a person and as a student of history. I had the opportunity to see him from time to time after graduation and those conversations are memories I shall treasure. Rest in Peace, Mr. Flanders.

I remember when my mom was sick, Uncle Paul would ride his bike from the house on Kennedy Rd. to St. Johnsville to visit. He took his life in his hands every time he came because he couldn't see, but that didn't stop him! Mom just loved those visits.... Love you Uncle Paul and miss you, but your in a better place now; give Mom and Aunt Buzz big hugs for me.

My heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Paul's family. I enjoyed working with Paul at DCS for many years. He was the type of person who you could talk to about concerns and he would see what he could do to resolve them. Whenever we would go to the Fort Klock Craft Fair, I would look for him; once finding him in the smitty, another down by the fort selling food and drinks. He was a great person to know. May the good memories help you during this difficult time.

So sorry to hear this news. My condolences to his family. I can still see him at the end of the Hall in front of his door smiling. He was an amazing teacher- I learned all I know about the Iroquois Indians from him.

My deepest sympathies and prayers for Pauls' family and friends. He was a very thoughtful and dear man. Had visited with him and Buzzy with my cousin, Marguerite Finch - talked about the St. Johnsville and Mohawk Valley history. He loved history - especially of local family and friends in the area. God Bless, Paul and rest in peace.

Mr. Flanders was one of my favorite teachers at DCS. He taught photography and the class was a joy for me. It opened some doors that didn't exist elsewhere in a small school. He had a kind a patient way of teaching and it was always a bit of an oasis in a day full of chemistry and math classes. I still use the skills I learned in that class to this day. I am so sorry at his passing.

Paul was my favorite teacher at DCS. I remember our textbook, “The Golden Age of Homespun,” and I still have a copy of the book. I did a maple sugaring project for him and remember fondly his shared excitement. He was my teacher, my mentor, my sounding board, and my friend. Rest In Peace, Paul. I’ll look for you, wetting a line, when my earthly days are over. Thoughts and prayers to the girls.
