Fort Plain – Martin R. Seeley, 66, of Fort Plain, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 11, 2017 at his home with his devoted family by his side.

He was born August 26, 1951 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Bernard R. and Ivy Marie (Barclay) Seeley. Martin was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1969.

He was united in marriage to Candice S. Stearns on October 23, 1971 in Ephratah, NY by Reverend Decker.

For 16 years, Martin was employed at Walmart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs holding several positions. Prior to that he worked many years on the Seeley Family Farm in St. Johnsville with his father and brother.

Martin was a member of the Sprout Brook Rod and Gun Club, and the Nellis Tavern Palatine Settlement Society. A man dedicated to his family, Martin’s life was centered around his loved ones. He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and searching for treasures with his metal detector.

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Candice; a daughter, Theresa (Aaron) Waters of Perkinsville, Vermont; a son, Scott Seeley of Fort Plain; two grandchildren, Haleigh and Jared; a brother, David W. (Mary Jane) Seeley of Gloversville; a sister, Barbara Seeley of Canajoharie; two aunts, Peg Seeley of Fort Plain and Ora Seeley of Stratford, NY; and several nieces, nephews ands cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 8:00 pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040, with Revered R.W. Williams of Mt. Valley Hospice, officiating. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until the time of the services. A celebration of Martin’s life will be held on Thursday November 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the South Minden Volunteer Fire Department, 1029 State Highway 163, Fort Plain, NY.
