Mohawk - James W. Miner, 82, a long time Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 28, 2017 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center.

He was born March 19, 1935 in the Bronx, the son of the late Clarence and Ellen (Branigan) Miner and was a graduate of Earlville Central School.

His marriage to Sally I. Place took place on May 2, 1987 in the Town of Little Falls. The couple shared a blessed union of 15 years until the passing of Sally on April 27, 2002.

Mr. Miner was a United States Marine Corps veteran enlisting on October 31, 1954 and was honorably discharged on July 13, 1958. After his honorable discharged, James enlisted in the Reserves for 22 years.

James was last employed as a machine operator for the former Chicago Pneumatics in Utica, NY.

Mr. Miner was an active member of the Mohawk Reformed Church and was also seen participating in the Sunday Coffee Hour. He was active in the Men's Bible Study, the Consistory Program and was a former Deacon of the Church.  In his leisure he enjoyed hunting and gardening.  James was known for always having a joke for any situation.

Survivors include his daughter, Heather Streator of Barneveld, NY; a daughter-in-law, Anne Miner of New York Mills; a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Bohnert of Vermont; his grandchildren, Brianna, Michael, and Steven Streator, and Sean (Leslie) Miner, Jason(Heidi) Miner and Brett Miner and girlfriend Kim; three great grandchildren, Caleb, Kaden and Juliet Miner and Austin and Emily Streator; and he also leaves behind his feline companions.

He was pre-deceased by his son, Darryl Miner on May 21, 2017.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Mohawk Reformed Church with Reverend Brian Engel, officiating. Burial will follow at Mohawk Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers please all memorial contributions to either the Herkimer Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407 or to the Mohawk Reformed Church, 20 South Otsego St., Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the church service. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank) 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
