William Devost Obituary

Fort Plain - William Devost, 93, a long time Fort Plain resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 29, 2020 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born November 25, 1926 in Stratford, NY the son of the late John &  Telka (Tilly) Devost.

On March 3, 1953 William was united in marriage to Patricia Hoffman at the Fort Plain Methodist Church. Mrs. Devost preceded him in death.

Mr. Devost was a United States Army veteran, enlisting on May 18, 1955 and was honorably discharged on February 27, 1956 with the rank of Private Second Class.

William was last employed at the former Life Savers in Canajoharie, working there from 1961 until its closing.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening and his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Betty (Chris) Sanders of Palatine Bridge, Bonnie (Bruce) Frasier of Lasselleville and Deborah (Russell) Vance of Nelliston; a son, Stanley Devost of Del Ray Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Ashley (Jon) Rouse, Tiffany (Tyler) Davis and Travis Vance; two great grandchildren, Ava and Adley Rouse; a sister, Milly Trautner of Rome, NY, sister-in-law, Esther Devost of Salisbury, and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Sophia Drozd and Julia Yacowenia and his brothers, Andy, George, and John Devost.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 3, 2020 at 11:00 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY. Burial will follow at St. Josephs' Cemetery, Dolgeville, NY where full military honors will be accorded. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday November 3, 2020 from 10:00 am until the time of the services at 11:00 am. Due to the current health precautions, a facemask and social distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the Albany Stratton VA Center, 113 Holland Ave., Albany NY 12208. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
