Walter Bych Obituary

Town of Stark - Walter Edwin Bych died suddenly on February 20, 2024, in Fort Plain, New York.

He was born June 20, 1941, in Rome, New York, the eldest child of Walter and Mary (Sturbin) Bych.

He graduated from Oriskany Central School in 1959 and joined the Marine Corps soon thereafter.

After four years of service, he entered Utica College, earning a degree in business. He spent the next decades working in finance, including a number of years in the banking industry in Manhattan.

Eventually he returned Upstate to the family farms where he grew up. An avid motorcyclist, he frequently traveled the blue highways, and for a while indulged a passion for hill climbing. He traded his suit for overalls and took up construction, at which he was also skilled, overseeing numerous projects around the state.

Walt was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Samuel. He is survived by his sister, Christina, and brother-in-law, Gary Murphy, as well as extended family members and friends.

To honor his memory, consider a contribution to the Humane Society or animal rescue organization of your choice. From Freckles and Penny to Clancy and Beau, Ralph to Rosie, canine companions were a constant in his life.

Pursuant to his wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
