Obituary

Fort Plain - Wallace Wayne Miles, 78, of Fort Plain, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on December 1, 1944, in Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, the son of the late Wallace and Jeanne (Templeman) Miles. He immigrated to America at the age of 16.

On April 5, 1969, Wayne was united in marriage to Evelyn Warner At St. John's Reformed Church in St. Johnsville, NY. They enjoyed  a very happy and loving relationship for over 54 years. Wayne was a very supportive husband who helped his wife through the years with her many ideas and plans.

Mr. Miles was last employed at the former Herkimer Evening Telegram for over 40 years where he held the position of printer and type setter. Prior to that he worked at the former St. Johnsville Enterprise and News, owned by his uncle and aunt Roger and Phyllis Scofield.

In 1968 Wayne accepted Christ as his personal savior. He was a devoted follower of Christ and spent much time studying the Word of God.  He held various positions within the churches he attended and spent several years teaching Bible Study and adult Sunday School, as well as delivering sermons when needed. His favorite Bible verse was John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Wayne's life was centered around his loved ones, proving himself a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He always put the needs and concerns of his loved ones first. He enjoyed and took pride in renovating and maintaining his home. In his leisure, Wayne was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old westerns.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Evelyn; a devoted daughter, Kate Miles Yoder and husband Aaron; his cherished grandson, Jesse Miles Yoder; siblings, Reid (Sandy) Miles, Rodney (Denise) Miles, Mark (Charmaine) Miles, Linda (Les) Elliot and Vera (Felix) Traverse; in-laws, Catherine Bellen, William Warner, Rosaline (Hans) Drews and Barbara Johnson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Wayne was predeceased by Wallace Miles (father), Jeanne Miles (mother), Gladys Miles (step-mother), Donald Bellen (brother-in-law), Mary Warner (sister-in-law), and Roy Johnson (brother-in-law).
