Herkimer - Theodore (Ted) Widay, 95, of Herkimer passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital, Utica, NY with his family by his side.
He was born on April 7, 1929, the son of the late John and Anna Widay. He attended school in Newport. Ted was in the National Guard and was honorably discharged.
His career began at Borden's in Newport, Standard Desk in Herkimer, UNIVAC in Ilion for 25 years, Robert Castle Maintenance work and lastly General Electric in Utica for 13 years before he retired.
Ted also at age 20, played with three different bands, John Soron, Eddie Wilkowski and Clem Lewandowski. He played the drums. He also played the button accordion, violin, harmonica and keyboard. As a pass time, he bowled for the St. Joseph's Church League in Herkimer.
He belonged to the Polka League in Utica for many years. He loved to dance, especially the Oberek. Ted loved his hunting and fishing and built two camps at Great Sacandaga Reservoir.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Jim) Recchio of Frankfort, Ted Widay, Jr. of Salisbury Center; his grandchildren, Marcus and Kristine Recchio of Waterville, Chrisandra (Jenn) Recchio of Oneida; his great grandchildren, Kayla Recchio, Dante Grimes, Ariel and Nikko Recchio; his great great grandchildren, Asher and newly born Ayden; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Anna Widay, his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Stella Widay, stepdaughter Carol (Dev) Bugal, grandson Jason Recchio, sisters, Josephine (Stan) Bogdan, Bernice (Adolph) Pawlowski, Stella (John) Polytylo, and Jane (Stanley) Sabik; brothers, Andrew (Stella), Frank (Jane), Joseph (Josephine) and Michael (Betty).
In keeping with Ted's wishes, funeral services and burial at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
