St. Johnsville - Tamala L. (Tammy) Smith, 66, a lifelong St. Johnsville resident passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born on March 1, 1959, in Little Falls, the daughter of Doris M. (Burns) Widanka and the late Stephen J. Widanka. Tammy was educated and graduated from St. Johnsville High School.
Her marriage to Henry Smith took place on May 20, 1978, at St. Johnsville United Methodist Church.
Tammy was last employed at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, where she held the position of dietitian. Before that, Tammy worked for over 20 plus years as manager of the former Central Hotel.
Tammy’s life was centered around her loved ones; she cherished the quality time she spent with her entire family. She had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially for her many feline companions that she had over the years. Six of her loving cats will be buried with her.
She is survived by her mother, Doris Widanka; her daughter, Naomi Jones and husband Courtney; two granddaughters, Kaylee and Sadie Jones; her sister, Stephanie Widanka; stepson, Jason Smith; a niece, Megan Grubb and son, Mariano; nephew, Stephen Grubb and wife Haleigh and son, Leyton, and many cousins.
A big thank you to Cheryl Cavanaugh her caretaker that went about and beyond for her and became family and also her great friend, Brenda Polidori for helping take care of her to. Also, Sundi Rose for always being there for her.
She was predeceased by her father, Stephen Widanka and a sister, Shari Widanka.
A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Morris J. Edwards American Legion Post 168, 38 W. Main St., St. Johnsville, NY. Burial at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11:00 am. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
