St. Johnsville - Scott P. (Skeeter) DeNinno Sr., 70, of St. Johnsville, NY passed away after a 3-year battle with cancer on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his winter residence in Lakeland, Florida.
He was born on May 31, 1955, in Little Falls, the son of the late Rudy DeNinno and Ruth (Alkinburgh) Murray. Scott was a graduate of Dolgeville High School.
Scott began his career as a Police Officer in the villages of St. Johnsville, Herkimer, and Dolgeville. He served as Town Justice in Oppenheim for many years, and a school bus driver for the Little Falls/Fonda Bus Corp. He was last employed as a Correction’s Officer for the New York State Dept of Corrections at Midstate Correctional Facility in Marcy, NY. He retired in 2011.
On March 10, 2000, Scott was united in marriage to Nan Chandler Clark in the town of Manheim, NY.
Scott was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, known for his gregarious nature and “colorful” vernacular. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also never missed an opportunity to enjoy a good game of corn hole. He was a 36-year Life Member of the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Company, where he served his entire career as a Firefighter/EMT, and held the offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Trustee, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief during his tenure. He also served on the Board of Directors of St. Johnsville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nan; a son, Scott P. DeNinno, Jr. (Rebecca); a daughter, Jodi Familo; two step-sons, Neil Clark (Christine) and Adam Clark (Rachel); a brother, Randy DeNinno (Sue) of Herkimer; his grandchildren, Alex Nethaway, Jeremiah DeNinno, Jordan DeNinno, Leann Clark, Brittney Clark, Connor Clark, Isaac Clark, Faith Clark, Milo Clark, and Noah Clark; two great granddaughters, Hadley and Kaibrienne D’ Antonino; a sister-in-law, Glenna Capece (Victor); Former Wife, Victoria DeNinno; and many nephews and cousins.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge) 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY. A prayer service will follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor David Keyser, officiating. Burial will follow at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Company, 6786 State Highway 29, St. Johnsville, NY 13452. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A celebration of life will follow at the H.C. Smith Benefit Club, 538 Crum Creek Road, St. Johnsville for fellowship and sharing of Skeeter stories.
Scott’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and Wesley Chapel, FL. Dr. J. Chadha, and Dr. Caleb Lucas, as well as the infusion staff at Wesley Chapel for their care and patience. (He was not always an easy patient).
