Fultonville - Sarah M. Lyons, 97, of Randall, NY (Town of Root), passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, NY, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on August 16, 1928, in the town of Oppenheim, the daughter of the late Bennie K. Bertha Mae (Bronk) Snell. Sarah was a graduate of Youkersbush Country School.
Sarah was united in marriage to Harry E. Lyons, on January 1, 1948, in the Town of Oppenheim. The couple shared a blessed union of 34 years until the passing of Harry on December 26, 1983.
Mrs. Lyons worked at several local factories in the Mohawk Valley, including the former Canajoharie Manufacturing in Canajoharie, and enjoyed preparing meals for Meals on Wheels in Fort Plain.
Sarah’s life was centered around her loved ones, and especially enjoyed reading to her great great granddaughter, Lakelynn. In her leisure she enjoyed doing word search puzzles, bird watching and watching the cats watch the birds.
She is survived by her son, Richard Lyons of Fultonville; her daughter, Karen Klock and husband Peter of St. Johnsville; eight grandchildren, Rick Lyons and wife Marie, Stephanie Ewen and husband Michael, Timothy Lyons and wife Katie, Christopher Weaver and wife Tammy, Tracey Shelmandine and husband Jerry, Thomas Klock and companion Kayla, Deanna Horender and companion Chris, and Nicole Haughton and husband Jonathan; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren including a special great great granddaughter, Lakelynn; two brothers, Kenneth Snell and wife Sharon of Delaware, Millard Snell and wife Martha of New Hampshire; two sisters, Betty Flint of South Carolina and Bonnie Greenberg of St. Johnsville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Carol Smith and Viola Lyons, and a brother, Richard Snell.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 2 - 4 pm at the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to the Masonic Lodge) 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY. A prayer service will follow at 4:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Tom Flanders, officiating. Burial at West St. Johnsville Cemetery will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions in Sarah’s name to either, the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department, 6 W. Main St., St. Johnsville, NY 13452 or to S.A.V.A.C. PO Box 296, St. Johnsville, NY 13452. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Etzkorn and her staff, along with the fourth-floor nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Sarah and her family. The family would also like to thank Karen Pavlus for always being there for Sarah and her family throughout the years and a special thank you to Michelle Brown and Mickey Swartz for all their help.
