Richard Swartz Obituary

 

St. Johnsville - Richard "General" A. Swartz Sr., 76,  long time St. Johnsville resident passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020, at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 4, 1944, in Fort Plain, son of the late Raymond and Beatrice (Bauer) Swartz Sr. and was educated at St. Johnsville schools. 

He was married to his loving wife, Priscilla (Hazzard), of 45 years on September 5, 1975, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville, NY. 

Richard was a dedicated employee of Helmont Mills for over 30 years, where he held the position of supervisor.  He dedicated much of his time to the St. Johnsville community as a volunteer firefighter for St. Johnsville Fire Department for over 20 years.  Richard's life was centered around his family, he proved himself a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. 

Survivors include his devoted wife Priscilla; three sons, Richard A. Swartz Jr.,  and wife Tonya of Parkesburg, PA; Steven Swartz of St. Johnsville, NY; and Shawn Swartz and wife Stacy of Nelliston, NY; a brother, Raymond Swartz, Jr. of St. Johnsville; Four grandchildren, Joey (Juhana), Haley, Austin, and Christopher; 4 great-grandchildren, Satcha, Samantha, Sabrina, and Sophia; In-laws George (Karen) Hazzard, Diane (David) Beyer, and Rose Merkel; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Nichols and Priscilla Heaton. 

In keeping with Richard's wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (Next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
