Virginia - Richard Irving Patterson, 88, of Nathalie, Virginia, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020 at home. He was the husband of Rhodamary Watkins Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was born in St. Johnsville, N.Y., July 9, 1931, a son of the late Hubert Dudley Patterson and Myrtle Collins Patterson. He was a member of Brookneal United Methodist Church, but attended Fellowship Community Church. He was also a founding member of Brookneal Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM), a U. S. Army Veteran, owner of R and R Trucking Co. and worked at Punk Stanley’s store.
In addition to his wife, he survived by two sons, James Alvin Patterson of Laceyville, PA., Richard Scott Patterson (Beverly) of Nathalie; a daughter, Justina Anne Patterson of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren; a brother Joe Patterson (Carol) of St. Johnsville, N.Y.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Maryellen DiBrango; a sister, Betty Hoyer; three brothers Herbert, Edward and Dan Patterson.
A graveside service was held at the convenience of the family at West St. Johnsville Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Local arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
