St. Johnsville- Richard M. Donohue, Jr., 86, a longtime St. Johnsville resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY, with his devoted family by his side.
He was born on November 21, 1937, in Amsterdam, NY; the son of the late Richard M. and Ethel (Fitzgerald) Donohue, Sr. Richard was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Amsterdam, NY and he furthered his education at Fulton Montgomery Community College. He became a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserves and enjoyed a fruitful career with the former Hasbro Toy Company.
On May 5, 1962, Richard married Mary Lou Putman at St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 59 years until the passing of Mary Lou on September 2, 2022.
Richard was a loving and caring father and grandfather. He spent many seasons on Gilman Lake, creating cherished family memories amidst the tranquil beauty. Together with his wife, they often found solace on the porch, enveloped in an Adirondack melody.
Survivors include his daughters, Michele Donohue, Mary Beth St. Dennis and her husband Robert; a son, Michael Donohue and his wife Pamela; three grandchildren, Victoria St. Dennis Meierdiercks and her husband John, Brett Donohue and Shea Donohue; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Francis Meierdiercks; a brother, Robert Donohue and his wife Joyce of Niskayuna; and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his granddaughter, Morgan St. Dennis.
In keeping with Richard's wishes, funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY. Donations can be made in Richard's name to The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
