Richard Carbone Obituary

Herkimer – Richard T. Carbone, 93, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY, with his loving family by his side.

He was born on May 13, 1931, in Herkimer, the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Condello) Carbone. Richard was a graduate of Herkimer High School.

He was married to the former Lucy V. Losito on June 6, 1953, at Saint Anthony’s Church in Herkimer, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 57 years until Lucy’s passing on July 9, 2010.

Mr. Carbone was a United States Air Force veteran who was honorably discharged on February 16, 1951, with the rank of Private.

For 45 years, Richard was employed at General Electric in Utica, NY. After his retirement from General Electric, he was active in helping his son Vito manage Body Dimensions Health and Fitness Center in Herkimer. In later years, he enjoyed cooking and making sauce at Godfather’s Hideout in Herkimer.

Mr. Carbone was a member of the Church of Saint Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer.

Richard was a devoted husband, a caring father, a loving “PaPa,” and a cherished brother and friend. His world revolved around his family—especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored with all his heart.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially tending to his yearly garden, which brought him great pride. Richard was a vibrant, happy man who filled every room with laughter and warmth. His infectious smile and kind words lifted spirits daily, and he always made sure those around him were doing well.

He will forever be remembered for his generosity, honesty, and enormous heart. Richard had a unique gift for knowing just what to say to bring comfort and joy to others. To those who knew him, there are only two words that describe true greatness: Richard Carbone.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.

Richard is survived by his sons: Anthony Carbone and wife Barbara of New York City, NY; Vito Carbone and wife Beth of Herkimer; and Santo Carbone of Clearwater, FL; his grandchildren: Richard Carbone and wife Ali, Lindsay Carbone, Vito Carbone II and wife Jacquelyn, Nicole Carbone and Mike Battisti, Krystal Moore and husband Cody, and Jessica Gushue; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Hope Carbone of Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Isabelle Blasting, Rose Vittore, and Nancy Carbone; and his brothers, Salvatore and Rocco Carbone.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the locally owned and family-operated Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
