Peter Caliguire Obituary

Herkimer - Peter J. Caliguire, 74, a lifelong Herkimer resident, after a brief illness, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 2, 2025. He passed peacefully with his wife and sister-in-law, Becky, by his side.

Peter was born on January 13, 1951, in Herkimer, the son of the late Peter J. and Olga (Pietropaoli) Caliguire. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1969.

Peter was a United States Air Force veteran. He enlisted on August 25, 1976, and was honorably discharged on July 24, 1982, with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On July 26, 1986, Peter was united in marriage to Cathleen Gardner at Mt. Zion Ministries in Herkimer.

Peter was employed as a Correction Officer for the New York State Correctional Facility at Mid-State, in Marcy, NY, until his retirement.

Pete was a member of Mt. Zion/Redeemer Church in Utica, NY. A man devoted to his family, Peter always put the needs and concerns of his loved ones first. He was a loving and caring husband, father, papa and brother who enjoyed the quality time he spent with his family. In his leisure Pete enjoyed puttering in his workshop, working on house projects and keeping his yard and garden in pristine condition all while listening to Rush Limbaugh and Patrick Bet-David on the radio. In addition to Jesus and his family Peter had an indelible love for our nation. He was a true patriot.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cathy; two sons, Joshua Caliguire and wife Niki, Corban Caliguire and wife Ericka; a daughter, Carmi Moore and husband Joshua; his beautiful grandchildren: Talia Caliguire; Valor, Avay, and Cruz Caliguire; Giacobi, Paxton, and Tino Moore, and his sister, Adele Aiello and husband Jack. In-laws: Andrea and Rick Hyde, Becky and Bob Rifenburgh, David and Audrey Gardner, Connie and Randy Blais, Drew and Catha Gardner, Christopher and Laura Gardner, Effie and Tim Donlon, and Jodi and Mike Austin; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Daniel Gardner.

Cathy and Becky would like to thank the wonderful Doctors and Nurses at Bassett Hospital for their loving and compassionate care to Peter and to Cathy during his hospital stays.

Especially:
Doctors; Ellerton, White, Hess
