Auburn, NY - Nelson A. Ambridge, 77, of Auburn, NY and a former long time Canajoharie resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Auburn Community Hospital, with his devoted family by his side.
He was born August 23, 1944 in Little Falls, NY the son of the late Nelson and Verlie Rose(VanEtta) Ambridge, and was educated in St. Johnsville schools.
He was united in marriage to Irene M. Baumes on May 17, 1969.
Mr. Ambridge was last employed at the former Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, where he held the position of Fork Lift operator.
Nelson was a member of the Unity Lodge #79 F&A.M. of Canajoharie.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Irene; his daughters, Darlene Hemstreet (Richard) and Sharon Schondlemeyer; a son, Nelson Ambridge (Marlana); sisters, Gladys Martagon, Adeline Skee and Eleanor Ambridge;grandchildren Ashley (Daniel) Ibarra, Nelson, Anthony and Christian Ambridge, Christopher Nellis (Catherine), Matthew Nellis, David Nellis (Crystal), Kenton Steinhardt, and Kathlyn Cox (Tyler); two great-grandchildren, and in-laws ,John Baumes, Sandra Gordon, Robert Baumes (Linda) and Martin Baumes (Rose) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Janette Rice, Natalie Yager and Alice Zimmerman and grandson, Jeffrey Nellis.
In keeping with Nelson's wishes funeral services and traditional earth burial at Fort Plain Cemetery were private and held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
