Town of Columbia - Merle "Mike" Ramsey 76, passed away peacefully at home with his wife Sherry by his side on Friday, October 4, 2024, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
He was born on March 11, 1948, in Herkimer, the son of Merle O. and Lena (Arca) Ramsey. He was educated in Herkimer Schools.
Mike served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal at the Good Conduct Medal.
After his discharge he returned to Herkimer to begin his career as a talented and respected auto mechanic. For a brief time, Mike and his father operated Village Woodcrafters in Mohawk. In 1989, he built and operated a successful repair shop in Mohawk - Ramsey's Auto Repair, retiring in 2013. Besides his passion for auto repair, Mike also enjoyed wood working, carpentry, fishing, hunting, golfing and was an avid numismatist.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sherry (Woroby) Ramsey; his son, Michael (Wendy) Ramsey; grandchildren, Michael Roy and Lilah Ramsey; his siblings, Marlene (Sonny) Duesler, Kathy Ramsey, Donna Ramsey, and Bill Ramsey (Steve), his in-laws, Cindy & Michael Mackesey, Kathy & Dean Doxtader, Elaine Woroby, and Janice & Steve Scheutzow.

Mike will also be missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Merle and Lena Ramsey, sister, Debbie Ramsey, in-laws, Peter and Verna Woroby, and brother-in-law, Mark Woroby.
Mike was a guy with few words and a big heart. He was always willing to lend a hand or quietly support his family. His advice, knowledge and generosity will be missed.
In keeping with Mike's wishes funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. All memorial contributions may be made to either, Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Route 5s, Mohawk, NY 13407 or the Crowley - Barnum American Legion Post 25, 43 W.
