Michael Hoke Obituary

Livingston, TN – Michael John Hoke, 63, a former Mohawk resident, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his home in the comfort of his loving wife, Ruth.

He was born on October 3, 1960, the son of the late John (Jack) and Norma (Bosch) Hoke. Mike attended Owen D. Young and Mohawk High Schools.

His marriage to Ruth LaVenture took place on October 15, 1986.  The couple shared a blessed union of 37 years.

Mike’s life surrounded around his loved ones, always being the protector and taking care of his family.  As the oldest of 6 kids, he grew up helping his parents and working on family and friend’s farms while excelling in high school football and basketball.

Mike was an Army Veteran.  Throughout his life, he worked with the band, Alpha Centauri, as their light and sound man for several years.  He also worked at Remington Arms, Robinson Bros., and some summers with BK Fencing.  Mike and Ruth finally settled in Tennessee, where he spent his last days.

Besides his wife, Ruth, his survivors include his sons, Michael, Jr and wife, Heather Hoke, of TN, John Hoke and girlfriend, Jessica, of CO, William Gould and fiancé, Ashley, of Mohawk, Joseph Whitmore of TN; and daughter, Cristy LaVenture of Mohawk.  His cherished grandchildren, Craig, Katlyn, Grace, Matthew, Britney, Ariana, James, Steven, Valerie, Amelia, Orion, Neveah and Charlotte.  His siblings, Lisa Hoke (John) of Little Falls, Philip and Jeanette Hoke of Mohawk and Leigh and Gregg Sponburgh of Mohawk.  His brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian (Dolores) LaVenture, Ed LaVenture, Carl LaVenture and Margaret Ribnikar; and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Norma Hoke, his sister, Lynnette Hoke, his brother, Stephen Hoke and his son, David LaVenture.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends at a Celebration of Life Ceremony on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 1pm at the Mohawk American Legion Post #25, where his brother-in-law, Pastor Gregg Sponburgh, will say a final prayer for our beloved Mike.
