Marta M. (Nellis) Zimmerman

Dolgeville – Marta M. Zimmerman, 77, of Dolgeville (Town of Oppenheim), passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on February 6, 1948, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Harold and Eleanor (Suits) Nellis. Marta was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School.

She was married to Steven D. Zimmerman, who preceded her in death in 1971.

For many years, Marta served as the Assistant Director of the Margaret Reany Memorial Library in St. Johnsville, where she loved helping patrons and their families with genealogical research.

Marta’s life was centered around her loved ones. She cherished the time she spent with her son and grandchildren and held a special place in her heart for Joe, his daughter, and Joe’s grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Steven R. Zimmerman and his wife, Ericka; two grandchildren, James Zimmerman and his wife Jillian Zimmerman, and Alexandra Zimmerman; her longtime partner, Joseph Peruzzi; his daughter, Trish Cook and her husband Westly Cook; and Trisha’s children, Aleigha Cook, Sophia Cook, and Chloe Cook. She is also survived by a sister, Peggy Patrie and her husband Brian; a brother, Curtis Nellis and his wife Pam; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Leroy “Kippy” Nellis.

In keeping with Marta’s wishes, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Johnsville Cemetery. A celebration of her life will follow at the Morris J. Edwards American Legion Post #168 following the services at the cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family-operated Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
