Little Falls - Maria Margaratha Keppel 92, of Little Falls, passed away quietly at Little Falls Hospital after a long illness on February 10, 2026, with her family by her side.
She was born on November 7, 1933, in The Hague, the Netherlands, the daughter of the late Antonie and Lollina (Sliep) van Willenswaard. She was educated in the Netherlands.
Maria had a loving marriage to Gerard W. Keppel for 73 years. Emigrating to the United States together in December 1956.
Mrs. Keppel was the office manager and bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Keppel’s Chimney Lining and Repairs in Little Falls. Prior to that she was employed at the NYS Unemployment Office in Herkimer.
She is survived by her husband Gerard, children Maria Willman, Gerard Jr. (Suzanne), Marianne Ellis, and Cynthia Stoffolano (Peter). Oma of Eric, Joel, Jared, Craig (Jordyn), Gerry, Angela, Laura (Tawanna), Katrina (Kyle), Joseph (Amanda), Anthony (Katie), Sarah and fourteen great grandchildren; Kyle (Brianna), Madison, Caleb, Kennedi, Jameson, Avina, Olivia, Rosalia, Adeline, Levon, Lincoln, Weston, Edward, and Annina. Also, one great-great granddaughter, Autumn, a sister, Cornelia Timmers and a brother, Marinus van Willenswaard.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Ton and Leendert, sisters, Lainie and Lydia and by loving sons-in law, John Kurt Willman and Terry Ellis.
In keeping with Maria’s wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
The family would like to thank Ryan White (PA), Dr. Canary and Little Falls Hospital, especially Jennifer Jaquay for their loving care and compassion. Little Falls Fire Ambulance for their ongoing assistance and kindness through the years. Also, longtime family friend Mike Beran of Vincent Enea Funeral Service for support and guidance during this difficult time.
