Kristin Smith Obituary

Mohawk - Kristin A. Smith, 60, a lifelong Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on March 5, 1965, the daughter of the late Harry and Patricia (Buddie) Barse. Kristin was a graduate of Mohawk High School and furthered her education at Herkimer County Community College, where she earned her associate degree in occupational therapy.

Kristin was last employed as a school bus monitor for Bernie Bus Company in Herkimer, NY.

Kristin was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She cherished the quality time spent with her family especially her grandchildren. Kristin found her greatest joy close to home, in the quiet beauty of her backyard and the simple companionship of her beloved ducks.

She is survived by her daughter Brigitte A. Evans of Savannah, Georgia; her son Kevin L. Markwardt and wife Adrienne of Mohawk, her grandchildren Madison, Rashod, Abigail, Baylee, Cullin, Alyvia, and Gavin. Sister Karen Johnston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Those who knew her will forever picture her where she was the most content in her yard under the sun, surrounded by her plants and her ducks she loved dearly.

She was pre-deceased by a sister, Susan Waterman; and two brothers, Kevin Barse and Jason Barse.

In keeping with Kristin’s wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to Hannaford Markets) 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
