Town of Schuyler - Kirke B. Palmer, Sr., 86, of the Town of Schuyler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on December 21, 1938, in New Hartford, NY the son of the late Dorothy (Taylor) Palmer. Kirke was educated in New Hartford and Clinton schools.
Mr. Palmer was a United States Army veteran, enlisting on February 28, 1956, and was honorably discharged on February 27, 1959, with the rank of SP4.
On October 27,1984, Kirke was united in marriage to Mary Bissell at her family home, Cobblescote, in Cooperstown, NY.
For 50 years, Kirke was a construction worker for the Labors Union Local # 35 in Utica, NY.
Kirke was a man devoted to his family, who always put the needs and concerns of his loved ones first. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. Kirke loved the outdoors, being a DIY carpenter and homesteader.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Mary; a daughter, Genevieve Bernier and husband Thomas; a son, Kirke Palmer, Jr.,and Dariel Decker; his grandchildren, Madelyne Waseleski and husband Morgan, Alicia Bernier, Makenzie Citrin, Kylie Thierry and Kirke Boudion Palmer, III; his great grandchildren, Evelyne Louise, Michael Thomas and Palmer Rae (expected July 2025); and many extended family members, friends and neighbors.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A prayer service will follow at 5:30 pm in the chapel of the funeral home, with Rabbi Stephen Galiley, officiating. Full military honors will follow after the prayer service. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
