Kathleen Lowery Obituary

Little Falls - Kathleen A. Lowery, 73, of Little Falls (Town of Fairfield), passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at her home.

She was born on August 28, 1949, in Oswego, NY the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Mulcahey) Lowery. Kathy was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School and Catholic High School in Oswego. She earned her Master's Degree from SUNY Oswego. She was a member of the Theta Chi Rho sorority.

Her marriage to Edward W. Abele took place on January 1, 2022, at the couple's home in the Town of Fairfield. NY.

For over 30 years, until her retirement, Ms. Lowery was a Kindergarten Teacher for the Little Falls City School District.

Kathy was a devoted Catholic and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She loved gardening, arts, crafts and fulfilled her life long dream of owning a Christmas Tree Farm, Naturewood Knoll Tree Farm in 2009. She loved spending time with her family and the many get-togethers with friends. Spending time with Ed in the Adirondacks and travelling the world. She loved volunteering and was very generous with her time and donations. She loved all of her students and touched many lives in her over 30 years of teaching in Little Falls. Kathy was a loving, caring and patient person. She will be dearly missed.

Kathy enjoyed sports and was a big fan of the Syracuse ('Cuse) basketball team and the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers! One of her special memories was being nominated and selected to carry the Olympic torch for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics games.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Edward; step-son Matthew Abele and wife Tiffany; step-daughter, Sara Gross and husband Joshua; sisters, Patricia Lowery and Peg (Patrick Schaffer) Lowery; brothers, Joe (Pam) Lowery, Bob (Diane) Lowery and Jack (Nancy) Lowery; grandchildren, Sam and Nicole Marks and Connor and Nora Gross; and several nieces, nephews, including Dan (Julie) Lowery, Bryan Lowery, RJ (Steph) Lowery and Jason Lowery; a grandniece, Vivian. She is survived by her in-laws, Janice (Mike) Huminuik, and Thomas (Brenda) Abele; and many cousins, and friends.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents, her in laws Henry and Ruth Abele, and granddaughter Abigail Gross.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 11:00 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's of Assumption Church, in Oswego, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Oswego, NY.  The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 4 - 6 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
