Josephine (Maida) Fusco

Herkimer - Josephine Fusco, 93, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital, Utica, NY with her loving family by her side.

She was born on March 8, 1931, in Herkimer the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Zazzarino) Maida. Josephine was a graduate of Herkimer High School.

Her marriage to Anthony P. Fusco took place on November 21, 1953, at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer by Reverend Purfacatto. The couple shared a blessed union of 61 years, until the passing of Anthony on September 21, 2014.

As matriarch of the family, Josephine's happiest times were when she was surrounded by her family. She proved herself a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother always putting the needs and concerns of her loved ones first.

Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Zorn and husband Rainer of Mohawk, NY and Kathy VanVolkenburg and husband Dave of Herkimer, NY; a son, Anthony "Tony" Fusco and wife Heather of Marriottsville, MD; six grandchildren, Christian Zorn and wife Leah, Erika Bucenec, Leigh VanVolkenburg and wife Richelle, Jason Fusco, Brian Fusco and Kristina Fusco; six great grandchildren, Jase and Pete Bucenec, Elise and Christian Jr Zorn, and Ensley and Ohlen VanVolkenburg; two brothers, Louis Maida and wife Bella and Nick Maida and wife Rosemary; sister, Patricia Paratore and husband Carl; in-laws, Connie Maida, Claudine Grande, and Clark Workman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Gregory Maida.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main St., Herkimer, NY. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Josephine's name will be donated to stroke research. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
