St. Johnsville - Joseph L. Sokol, 77, a long time St. Johnsville resident, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at his home with his devoted family by his side.
He was born on February 2, 1947, in Little Falls, the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Sokerka) Sokol. Joe was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. While attending college, Joe played on the college’s basketball team.
Mr. Sokol was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
On June 4, 1969, Joe was united in marriage to Rebecca A. Tolfa at the former St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville, by Reverend Quinn.
Joe was a foreman for Iron Workers Local Union # 12 in Albany, NY.
He was of the Russian Orthodox faith and a member of the Morris J. Edwards American Legion Post # 168.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Rebecca; his daughter, Sarah Quigg and husband Brian; his son, Ryan Sokol and wife Meaghan; two granddaughters, Anna and Rachel Quigg; sister, Sandra Rasmussen; in-laws, Laurie and Donald Smith and Peter and Mary Tolfa; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
