Herkimer - John L. Shaver, age 101, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.

 John was born on February 8, 1921, in the Town of German Flatts, NY the son of the late Carl and Martha (Lowell) Shaver and was a graduate of Mohawk Schools.  John was a World War II veteran, and served as an Army Medic, enlisting in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.  During that time, John traveled the world.

 On September 8, 1946, John was united in marriage to Anita M. Primeau at the Herkimer Methodist Church Parsonage.  The couple shared a blessed union of 73 years until the passing of Anita on December 11, 2019.

 John worked at the Hubbard Heel Company in Herkimer, Herkimer Precision Products, Inc., and for over 30 years as a machinist at the Bendix Corporation in Utica.

 John volunteered stocking fish for the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and loved spending time in the Adirondacks.  He was an avid gardener.  He and his wife Anita were active in the United Methodist Church and Baptist Church in Herkimer.  And hands down, he was a New York Yankees fan!

 Surviving John are his two daughters and their husbands, Rebecca Pache and husband Peter, of Poland, NY, and Alissa Smith and husband Andrew, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Andrew Hill, Nicole Talbott, Katelyn Miner and Brandon Miner; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Avery Jo; and several nieces and nephews.  John also leaves behind his very special friends, Ira (Sonny) and Marlene Duesler and Mike Beran.

 He was pre-deceased by his son, John (Jack) Shaver, Jr., on October 29, 2020; brothers, Theodore (Ted) Shaver and Carl (Dickey) Richard Shaver; and sisters, Pearl Greszczuk and Eleanor Currie.

 Burial will take place later in the spring for John and Anita, with full military honors accorded for John at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500.
