lion - John R. Servello, 91, a long time Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Friday March 12, 2021 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Ilion, NY with his loving wife Carol by his side.
He was born May 26, 1929 in Herkimer, the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Ann (Monteleone) Servello and was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
Mr. Servello was a United States Army veteran, enlisting on November 20, 1950. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1952 with the rank of Sergeant.
On September 8, 1956, John was united in marriage to Carol A. Parks.
John was formerly employed at the Annunciation School in Ilion and retired from the former Montgomery Wards in Utica, NY.
He was of the catholic faith and was a member of the Crowley - Barnum American Legion, Post # 25, Mohawk, NY.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Carol; sister-in-law, several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Frank and Orlando Servello, and six sisters, Louise Basile, Ruth Jaworoski, Christina Servello, Olga Eramo, Yolanda Servello and Virginia Schiavi.
In keeping with John's wishes, a graveside service will take place later in the spring at a time to be announced at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY with full military honors, accorded. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY, 315-866-1500.
