Mohawk - John A. (Jack) Hoke, 85, a long time Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2023, at his home with the comfort of his family by his side.
He was born on October 12, 1937, in Frankfort, NY, the son of the late Archie and Ruby (Hight) Hoke. Jack was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1957.
His marriage to Norma Bosch took place on August 1, 1959, at the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church in the Town of German Flatts. The couple shared a blessed union of 38 years until the passing of Norma on January 28, 1998.
Until his retirement in 1999, Jack was employed at Remington Arms in Ilion, NY.
Jack's life was centered on his loved ones, always putting the needs and concerns of them first. Growing up, Jack always worked hard on the family farm while excelling in high school football, wrestling and track. As an adult, Jack was on several men’s softball and bowling leagues. He also was involved with Mohawk little league, as a coach.
Survivors include his daughters, Lisa Hall and partner John Slabe of Little Falls, Leigh Sponburgh and husband Gregg of Mohawk; sons, Michael Hoke and wife Ruth of Tennessee and Philip Hoke and wife Jeannette of Mohawk; his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle Kelly, Jacob, Bailee, Madison, Hannah, Michael Jr., and John Hoke, Kaitlin and Gracie Bennett; great grandchildren, Orion, Amelia, Colson, Ayla and Valerie Hoke; two sisters, Marguerite Hall of Fort Plain and Sharon Bosch of Little Falls; a brother, Alfred (Butch) Hoke of Dolgeville; brother-in-law, Harry and Liz Bosch; his best friend from childhood, Dick Eysaman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife, Norma, Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Lynnette on November 5, 2011; his son, Stephen on January 7, 2015; sisters, Eleanor in 2013, Ethel in 2016, Irene in 2018 and Helen in 2021; brothers, Ira in 1984, Arthur in 1986, Archie in 2001, Ernest (Skip) in 2004, Kenneth in 2006, Robert in 2009, and Nelson in 2012.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A prayer service will follow at 2:00 pm at the chapel of the funeral home with Jack's son-in-law, Lay Pastor, Gregg Sponburgh, officiating. Burial will follow at Mohawk Cemetery in the village.
