John was last employed as a farmer with Maple Leaf Farms, in Richfield Springs, NY.

John was a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and son. He always puts the needs and concerns of his loved ones first. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed camping fishing and cooking out. He was a jack of all trades, but his heart was working as a farmer.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou Grainer of Little Falls; his fiancé, Susan Bennett of Herkimer; two daughters, Sarah Grainer (Jerold Bahr) of Middleville, Shannon Grainer of Herkimer; two sons, John R. Grainer, III of Herkimer, and Jake Bennett (Ashley Evangelow) of Richfield Springs; four sisters, Debra Pendolf, Kathy Grainer, and Jodi Grower (Richard) all of Little Falls, and Lori Denmark (Jose Macon) of Herkimer; a brother, Jeffrey A. Grainer (Debbie) of Little Falls. He was adored by his 17 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Though he loved all his grandkids equally, he shared a special bond with 2 very special grandsons, Cory Collard and Mason Shepherd, they were his true ride or dies. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by a son Joseph Paracka.
