John Franco Obituary

East Herkimer - John A. Franco, 82, a lifetime Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital, Utica, NY with his loving family by his side.

He was born on August 9, 1941, in Herkimer, the son of the late Thomas and Virginia (Polidini) Franco. John was educated in Herkimer Schools.

Mr. Franco was a United States Army Veteran, enlisting on January 9, 1964, and was honorably discharges on January 7, 1966, with the rank of Private First Class.

On December 2, 1967, John was married to the former Roseann Mineo at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Utica, NY.

Mr. Franco was last employed as a Mason at the Masonic Home. Mr. Franco was an entrepreneur, with a wealth of knowledge concerning antiques. John was ahead if the times with having auctions, buying and selling with his shinny aluminum “Here’s Johnny” truck. For many years he was owner of the Village Trader, Franco's Convenient Corners, and Commerce Cafe. In the past he was President of the Herkimer Boxing Club.

In his younger years he excelled in sports and even played on three softball leagues at once. He was a devout New York Yankee's fan.

Every morning, he was a regular at Burger King visiting with his buddies. During the winter months, John and Roseann resided in Florida enjoying the sunshine.

John was a member of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Roseann of Herkimer; a devoted son, John T. Franco of Herkimer; a sister, Mary Franco of Herkimer; two brothers, Rocco Franco of Manlius, and Peter Franco of New Hartford.; in-laws, Anne Franco, Joseph and Mary Corapi and Jack Mineo; and several nieces, nephews, cousins.

He was pre-deceased by a sister, Rita (Pop) Cassella, and his brothers, Raymond (Olga), Edward, Joseph and Thomas Franco, sisters-in-law, Joan Franco, Rose Marie Franco and Sheila Mineo.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 4 - 6 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, 228 South Main St., Herkimer, NY on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:00 am with Reverend Thomas Babuich, officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. All memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Sts Anthony & Joseph, 228 S. Main St., Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
