Joanne M. (Loefler) Collins

Herkimer - Joanne M. Collins, 89, a longtime Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center, Town of New Hartford, NY.

She was born on December 16, 1936, in Ilion, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Wheeler) Loefler. Joanne was educated at Annunciation Catholic Elementary School and was a graduate of Mohawk High School, Class of 1955.

In October of 1967, Joanne was married to Edward Collins in Pennsylvania. The couple shared a blessed union of 35 years until the passing of Edward on September 29, 2003.

For several years, Joanne was employed at the former Dapper Dan Dry Cleaning in Herkimer, NY.

Mrs. Collins was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, New York. She was an active member of the Christian Women's Club and found great joy in singing as a dedicated member of the church choir. Joanne generously shared her musical talents by singing at weddings celebrated at the church whenever she was asked. She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herkimer VFW Michael S. Pliseck Post #4915.

Joanne was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who always placed the needs and well-being of her family above her own. Her greatest joy came from spending quality time with her grandchildren, creating treasured memories and sharing her love, guidance, and unwavering support with each of them.

She is survived by three daughters, Kim Maida and the late Louis Maida, Barbara Collins, Lynda Diehl and husband Shayne; five grandchildren, Leanne Maida and husband, Erik Seiler, Joey Maida and wife Molly, Marcus Galeotti, Caitlyn Diehl, and Joshua Diehl and his wife Holland: five great grandchildren, Daniel, Maddison and Nicholas Seiler, and Mila and Vivian Maida; a sister, Colleen Loefler and fiance Rich Empie; a brother, Robert Loefler; and several nieces, and nephews. Special friend of the family Sandy Cimek and her husband David.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward Collins, son-in-law, Louis Maida, and a sister-in-law, Wanda Loefler.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5 - 7 pm at the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to Hannaford Markets) 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Edward.
