Obituary

Herkimer - Jean L. "GiGi" Jacopelle, 83, a resident of Herkimer, West Winfield and Cedarville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 18, 2022, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, NY.

She was born on June 7, 1938, in Herkimer the daughter of the late Charles Adams and Harriet (Orendorf) Adams - Konick. Jean was a graduate of Herkimer High School and worked for the Mount Markham School District as a skilled and compassionate Bus Driver, loved by her kids and community.

On December 29, 1967, Jean was united in marriage to Leonard F. Jacopelle in East Syracuse. The couple shared a blessed union of 54 years, until the passing of Leonard on May 8, 2011.  Together they owned and operated the Madison Hotel in Cedarville for many years bringing “good food and good times” to the community.

Gigi had a priceless heart of gold.  She was kind, caring, and non-judgmental. GiGi was a true blessing to her family and friends.  Her caring, selfless, and loving spirit will be dearly missed.  As a woman she was confident, courageous, compassionate and inspiring. A true SHERO on this Earth and in Heaven. One of her biggest joys was as the caregiver for her adored nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.  An example of her loving and selfless spirit is that she insisted on being the first car in the “pick up” line at school which meant she waited up to 2 hours in line everyday so Colton didn’t have to look for her or wait for her to pull up. An Angel on this Earth.

Meaning: “GiGi”: farmer, hard worker, warrior, Love, trust & affection, God is good, God is gracious.  All of which embodied the kind of human she was.

Survivors include her niece, Tracy Soules and husband Mitchell, two nephews, John S. Talarico, Jr. and wife Colleen and Michael A. Talarico and wife Dalana; a brother-in-law, John Talarico, Sr.; a sister-in-law, Patricia Adams; many great nieces and great nephews, and many great great nieces and great great nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her step-children, Leonard and Jean Jacopelle, Jr., Sam Jacopelle, John Jacopelle, and JoAnne Mergenthaler. She is also survived by her adored faithful canine companion “Poochie.”

She was pre-deceased by her brother, Charles "Bo" Adams, Jr. on March 2, 2013; her sister, Jane Talarico on October 9, 2013, and an infant sister, Janet Adams.
