Town of Little Falls – Jay F. Tomei, 71, a lifelong Little Falls resident, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Albany Medical Center.
He was born on May 1, 1952, in Little Falls the son of the late Frank J. and Maryellen (Colwell) Tomei. Jay was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, class of 1970 in Little Falls, NY.
On June 11, 1988, he was united in marriage to Pamela A. Schmitt at St. Paul’s Church in Eggertsville, NY.
Jay was last employed as a foreman and project supervisor for CCM Construction out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to that, he was employed as an insurance agent for Allstate in Herkimer and John Hancock Insurance.
Jay was a member of the Little Falls American Legion, Little Falls Polish Community house and the Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club. An active outdoorsman, Jay, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He was also a dedicated fan of NASCAR and Dirt Track Racing.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Pamela; a daughter, Michelle Tomei; two sons, John Tomei and Jason Tomei; a sister, Elaine Enea and husband Vincent; a brother, Frank Tomei and wife Candice; sister-in-law, Deb Cassidy and husband Doug; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his twin sister, Janet Tomei on November 16, 2018; brothers, Ronald Tomei on November 4, 2012, and James Tomei on March 2, 2019; and a special nephew, Anthony M. Enea on January 24, 2009.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 1 – 3 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A prayer service will follow at 3:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Deacon James Bower, officiating. All memorial contributions may be made your local Veteran’s Agency.
