Janice M. (Reinhardt) Johnson

Mohawk - Janice M. Johnson, 81, of Mohawk (Town of German Flatts), passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Wynn Hospital, Utica, NY.

Janice was born on January 6, 1944, in Herkimer, the daughter of the late Harold and Delina (Desgrosielliers) Reinhardt and was a graduate of Mohawk High School.

On July 17, 1965, Janice was united in marriage to Edward C. Johnson at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 51 years until the passing of Edward on November 8, 2016. 

In addition to raising her children, Janice contributed to her community through her involvement with the Women’s Auxiliary in Mohawk for many years, and she helped care for children at the Mohawk YMCA Child Day Care program. She was also an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. 

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.

Janice’s legacy lives on in her four children: including her daughter, Colleen Bunce of Mohawk; three sons, Edward Johnson of Ilion, David Johnson, and his wife Veronica of New Mexico, and Michael and Christina Johnson of Illinois. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Sarah, Carlie, Audrey, Anna, Tessa, Morgan, Brody, and Riley, each of whom brought her great joy. Other surviving loved ones include her sister, Joan Hailston, and husband Edward of Richfield Springs, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Joyce Kaples and Jeanne Goldstein, and her brothers, Richard, George (Louie), and Harold Reinhardt. Janice will be remembered for her strength, her compassion, and her unwavering love for her family.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 5 -7 pm at the locally owned and family-operated Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 12:00 pm at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 71 E. Main St., Mohawk, NY. Burial will follow at Mohawk Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
