St. Johnsville - James E. (Jim) Keough, 73, a lifelong St. Johnsville resident, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Little Falls Hospital.

He was born on August 2, 1949, in Little Falls, the son of the late Arthur J. and Jessie (Begley) Keough, Jr. Jim was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1968 and furthered his education at Hudson Valley Community College where he earned his associate degree.

On November 2, 1991, Jim was united in marriage to Sherrie L. Gordon at St. John's Reformed Church.

For 34 years, until his retirement in 2009, Jim was employed at CSX Railroad where he last held the position of Signal Maintainer.

Jim was a member of the Former St. Patrick's Catholic Church in St. Johnsville and was a proud 52-year member of the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department.

A man dedicated to his family, Jim proved himself a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He always put the needs of his loved ones and his community first. Jim loved his bowling, even when he hated it. Enjoyed his Wednesday nights with Bill, Holly, Chad, and Isaiah. He also tremendously enjoyed his woodworking, as so many of you know. He really loved to create something that became a family treasure. Jim would also sit and reminisce about his racing days at the Fonda Speedway. He and Don, Albert, and the rest of the St. Johnsville racing gang had many interesting Saturday nights at the track.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 31 years, Sherrie; two daughters, Tammy Weaver and husband Christopher of St. Johnsville and Holly Handy and husband Chad of St. Johnsville; his grandchildren, Alex Smith and wife Danielle, Andrew Smith and wife Brianna, Melanie Weaver, Emily Weaver, Samantha Weaver, Isaiah Handy, Isabel Handy Kayla Handy and Elliana Handy; four great grandchildren, Kayden, Jace, and Brylee Smith and Maverick Smith; many cousins and good friends, and many brothers and sisters of the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department.

He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Lynnann Carroll on February 7, 2015, and a brother, Gary Arthur Keough on January 9, 1953.
