James Caliguire Obituary

James A. Caliguire, 67, of Herkimer, NY, passed away June 7, 2020, in his home surrounded by loved ones. Jim was born on November 3, 1952 to parents Joseph and Genevieve Caliguire in Herkimer, NY. He married Martha Murdock on July 23, 1977. Together they had their only daughter, Sarah, in 1981.

Jim was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He cared deeply about animals and had a special affinity for cats. He was passionate about gardening, relished playing online poker, loved consuming spicy food and drink, enjoyed playing board games by candlelight during power outages, and was known to bring a knife to a spoon fight. He was especially proud to have won the championship of the Pocket Billiards Tournament at The Golden Cue, located on North Main Street in Herkimer, where he was known as “Gentleman Jim”. He was honored to have made so many friends during his time working at Chicago Market and during his many years as an independent antiques dealer. Throughout his life, he held an unwavering faith in God, and he passionately shared his love for Jesus with those who surrounded him. He liked to say that, as owner of Herkimer’s Crossroads Antique Store, he was “paid in fellowship”.

Jim leaves behind an indelible mark on all those he crossed paths with.

Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years Martha, his daughter Sarah (Daniel) Beck, his granddaughters Regan and Kit Beck, his brother Robert (Suz) Caliguire, and his nephew and niece West and Sage Caliguire. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Dick Murdock (Chris Crozier) and Bob (Sherry) Murdock; sisters-in-law Judy Whitford, Sally Murdock, Theresa Murdock (Russ Collins), JoAnn Petkovsek, Mary Kanady; many special cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends he considered family.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Genevieve Caliguire; his parents-in-law Richard Sr. and Gloria Murdock; and his brothers-in-law Don Oldfield Sr., Bill Whitford, and Joe Petkosvek.
The family will be hosting a private Celebration of Life once the social distancing restrictions are lifted.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Franca Wandell for keeping everyone fed over the past month, to Jeanne Lizotte who put her life on hold to come and help care for Jim in his final days, and to Nurse Judy and her entire Hospice team for their dedication and care given to Jim and the family. They are endlessly grateful.

Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank),  527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
