Obituary

Ilion - Hamilton Thomas (Tom) Kane passed away peacefully at home in the company of his devoted family on August 25, 2021. He was 79.

Tom was born February 12, 1942 in the town of New Hartford, NY, son of the late Hamilton W. and Frances (Thomas) Kane. He was a graduate of Whitesboro High School.  He enjoyed a long and decorated career as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Schuyler, Herkimer County, and the New York State Department of Transportation, where he retired after 42 years as a crane operator. Tom also served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Town of Schuyler.

Tom’s life was firmly centered on his family, whom he loved and cared for deeply. He was a man who loved to chat, often sharing great stories and interested to learn about the memories and stories of others.  Tom enjoyed taking drives to visit with friends and family as well as stopping along the way for ice cream. He was an avid lover of music and dancing, never sitting at the sound of a good Polka.

Tom is survived by his five children: Roy (Michelle Tyson) Kane, Jesse (Lisa) Kane, Karen (Ron) Mower, Linda (Brad) Buhr, and Paula (Eldon) Ward; their mother, Grace Crossett; brother Delbert (Terri) Kane; Aunt Esther Goodson; many step-children, nieces, and nephews; and all of his cherished grand and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Joan Kane (1994) and dear friend, Wanda Screeder (2014).

The family will be receiving relatives and friends from 11:00 until 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 at Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to NBT Bank) 527 E.
