George T. Gottung
April 17, 1944 – January 10, 2025
Fort Plain – George T. Gottung, 80, of Fort Plain (Town of Minden), passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on April 17, 1944, in Little Falls, NY, to the late Theodore J. and Bessie Dehlia Getman Sanders Gottung. He graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1964 and served six years in the United States Army Reserves.
On July 21, 1968, George married Jeanie Bergloff at the Fort Plain Methodist Church. They spent 56 years together.
George worked for 25 years at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, NY, and started his own business, G.T.G. Computer Services. He was known for his ability to fix anything mechanical and for his strong work ethic, teaching his children the value of hard work and perseverance. He and his son even installed a geothermal heat pump in their home.
George was a devoted Christian, husband, father, and grandfather. He lived his faith with kindness, generosity, and selflessness, always putting his family’s needs first. He loved being surrounded by his family and was happiest when they were all together. A good man!
George is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Ted (Robin), Shari Braemer (Martin), Beth Semple (Scot), and Joanna Weller (Justin); 11 grandchildren: T.J. Gottung, Hannah Peña (Dean), Ira Braemer, Andrew Braemer (Alondra), Charity Payne (Michael), Jordan Semple, Sam Semple, Victoria Weller, Natalie Weller, Greyson Weller, and Ashley Weller; one great-grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, David (Norma) and Dan Bowley (Ida). He is also survived by his in-laws, Martha Treen (Roger), Neil Bergloff (Odette), and Steve Bergloff (Sara).
He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorcas Sanders Bowley Hutchens and Lois Sanders McFee Dillenbeck Simmons; and his brothers, Tom, Gerry, and Howard Sanders.
