George Estey Obituary

 

Herkimer - George J. Estey, 83, a long time Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Monday February 15, 2021 at FoltsBrook Center, Herkimer, NY.

 He was born September 20, 1937 in Little Falls, NY the son of the late George F. and Lena (DeLucia) Estey. George was a graduate of Herkimer High School.

 Mr. Estey was a United States Navy veteran enlisting on February 14, 1956 and was honorably discharged on January 26, 1960 with the rank of FN.

 For many years, George was a contracting painter, mastering his trade throughout the Mohawk Valley. Prior to that he worked at the former MDS in East Herkimer. After MDS closed, George went to Herkimer County Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in Business.

 George was an active member of the Herkimer VFW Post # 4915. He took much pride in carrying the American Flag in parades for the post.

 Survivors include his daughters, Debra Estey of Herkimer, Christine Estey of Herkimer and Kathleen Estey of Ilion; his grandchildren, Cassandra Estey, William DeLude, David DeLude, and Nicole DeLude; his great granddaughter, Kylie DeLude and several nieces and nephews.

 He was pre-deceased by his parents, grandparents, including a special grandmother, Ernestine DeLucia.

In keeping with George's wishes, a graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:30am  Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer where full military honors will be accorded. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY, 315-866-1500. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to George's niece, Simone Jones, for the extraordinary care she provide him and his family during his stay the nursing home.
