Frederick Turner Obituary

 

Mohawk -Frederick A. (Fred) Turner, 87, of Mohawk, (Town of German Flatts), passed away peacefully on Friday October 29, 2021 at his home with his devoted family by his side.

 He was born January 25, 1934 in Ilion, NY the son of the late Arthur L. And Dorothy (Comins) Turner. Fred was a graduate of Ilion, High School and furthered his education in teaching at Oswego College.

 Fred was united in marriage to Beatrice A. Donahue on June 30, 1956 at the First Baptist Church of Ilion.

 Mr. Turner was a United States Army Veteran, and he studied as an Army medic at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.  He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and served as a medic during the Korean War.

 Fred taught at Thomas Edison Technical High School in Rochester before coming to Mohawk.  He taught Industrial Arts at Mohawk High School for many years until his retirement in 1989.  While he was at Mohawk High School, he also taught driver’s education and he loved coaching track and cross country teams.  Fred also served as the advisor for the yearbook committee for several years.  In retirement, Fred started a craft business with his wife, and travelled to fourteen different states to participate in flower and garden shows and craft shows.  Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, and he was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.      

 He was pre-deceased by his son, Dale Turner on December 1, 2019.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Beatrice "Bea"; two daughters, Sherri Hall and her husband Rick, and Nancy Monohan and her husband Peter; a son, Paul Turner and his wife Jodi; his cherished grandchildren, Suzanne Roman, Patrick Turner, Amanda (Ryan) Lally, Grace Russell, Molly, Hall, Sara Hall, Ryan (Courtney) Turner, Kyle Turner, Sean Turner, Emily Monohan, Peter (Haleigh) Monohan, and Allyson Monohan; and eight great grandchildren,  nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by in-laws, Ward and Doris Donahue; and Dale's life partner of 25 years, Carol Smith and her daughter, Jennifer Smith and Dale's and Carol's grandson Ayden.

In keeping with Fred's wishes funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
