Surrounded by his loving family, Frederick J. Shaw Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024.
Frederick (Fred) was born in Windsor, PA, on October 8, 1944, the son of Mary and Frederick Shaw Sr. He grew up in Windsor, PA, as the youngest of five children. On a hayride is where he would come to meet his doting wife of 60 years, Barbara. They would then settle in Little Falls, NY, where they purchased and ran a successful dairy farm and raised their family.
Fred enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, from horseback riding, square dancing, and playing the accordion, to trying his luck at the casino. He especially enjoyed joking with his kids and grandkids and watching them compete for the coins he would throw out to them at Christmas.
He was a proud public servant who believed in standing up for his fellow farmers and neighbors. Fred was an active unionist with the National Farmers Organization for twenty years and served as a Herkimer County Legislator from 2007 until he passed.
Later in life, he became a baptized Mormon as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Herkimer, NY.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; daughters: Lorrie (Robert) Jones, Sametta (Dan) Lipiec-Shaw, Bonita (Steven Rando) Shaw, and Jolene (Wesley) Wright. Additionally, he was “Pappy” to his eleven grandchildren: Amanda (Kurt) Ciano, Brittany Jones, Melissa Mistic, Marissa (Sean) Conners, Joshua (Ashley) Moynihan, George (Makayla) Lyon, Tyler Lyon, Francis (Tamara) Kraszewski Jr., Meta Lyon, Albert (Morgan) Amacher, and Frederick (Chloe) Amacher. Numerous great-grandchildren were lucky enough to grow up with him as their “Pappy”.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Tammy Dineen for her kindness and care throughout his final days.
To honor Fred’s life, a visitation will be held from 3-5 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St. Herkimer, NY. A celebration of life will follow from 5-7 PM at Creative Designs by Tiffany in Dolgeville, NY.
