Elsie C. (Davis) Gay

Elsie Caroline Gay (Davis), age 82, of Mohawk, passed away surrounded by her family November 22, 2019. She was born September 9, 1937 in Northeast, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mohawk High School in 1956 and married her loving husband of 63 years, Ed, the very next day at the Herkimer Methodist Church. She retired from the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home after 22 years of dedicated service.

Elsie loved her life. She loved to go camping and going for car rides with her husband. She was always surrounded by her family and her sweet dog, Sparky. She adored all of them and they adored her right back. Her husband, Ed, was the light of her life and her best friend. She was an amazing mother and grandmother to not only her own children, but to anyone who needed her. She will be dearly missed, and we can’t wait to see her again.

Elsie is survived by her beloved husband, Edward Gay of Mohawk, her 5 children who she loved more than life, Mark Gay of Herkimer, Mellissa (Susie) Pape of Stittville, Michele (Dennis) Austin of Fairfield, Marsha (Mark) Mikus of Mohawk, Edward (Jenifer) Gay Jr. of North Port, Florida, and she was predeceased by her son, John. She is also survived by Rod (Kathy) Pierce of San Antonio, Texas, Cindy (Norm) Stark of Cold Brook, Mark Mikus of Mohawk, and she was predeceased by Vanessa Havener, who were her nephew, nieces and son-in-law she considered to be her own. Elsie loved being a Grandma and she was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Lewis Davis and her mother and stepfather, Frances and Clarence Young. She is also survived by her brothers Albert (Nancy) Young of Mohawk, Donny Young of Ilion, and she was predeceased by her siblings Joseph, Mabel, Francis and Mellissa. She was also blessed with her lifelong best friend, Judy, and Judy’s husband, Lee Lawrence.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY.  In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Elsie’s name to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407.
