Edward "Ned" Bingham

Herkimer - Edward “Ned” Bingham, 88, a longtime Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY, with his devoted family by his side.

He was born on June 8, 1937, in Troy, NY, the son of the late Lloyd and Marguerite Bingham. Ned was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, NY, class of 1955. He later graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1957, with a degree in FSA.

On September 27, 1958, Ned married the love of his life, Angela Morra, at St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer, by the late Rev. Gustave Purificato. The couple shared a blessed union of 59 years until the passing of Angela on October 11, 2017.

For 33 years, Ned was employed at the Whitesboro Central School District from 1964 until his retirement in 1997. He was Food Service Director and Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds until his retirement.

Mr. Bingham was a member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Herkimer Elks BPOE #1439, for over 60 years, Grand Knight of Herkimer - Mohawk Knights of Columbus Council # 579, and was president of the New York State School Buildings and Grounds Association.

Ned was a devoted and caring father, grandfather, and friend. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and traveling. He loved being on the water fishing with best friend Tom. He had many fond memories traveling with his wife, Angela and dear friends to Europe, Caribbean, throughout the country, and going on multiple cruises. In his leisure, Ned was an avid reader, loved history movies, and especially his Irish heritage.

He is survived by his three children, Bryon Bingham and wife Robin of Estero, Florida, Lynn Beaulieu and husband Joe of Port Orange, Florida, and Lisa Carswell and husband John of Clayton, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Chelsea Bingham and fiance Josh Gregory,  Jon Bingham and wife Kate, Jessica Owens and husband Derek, Samantha Schiavi and husband Ryan, Chris Beaulieu, Joelle Beaulieu and husband Spencer Garry; great grandchildren, Leigha and Kyle (“Bub”) Waldron, Lillian and Carter Owens, Wyatt  Schiavi, and Sofia Bingham; sisters-in-law, Concetta “Jetta” Aiello of Herkimer and Patricia Volo of Herkimer, and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lloyd and Marguerite Bingham, and two sisters, Barbara Hayden and Betsy Guertin.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 4 - 6 pm at the locally owned and family operated Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to Hannaford Markets). 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.  Members of the Herkimer - Mohawk Knights of Columbus Council # 579 are asked to meet on Thursday evening at 4:30 pm for services, and members of the Herkimer Elks BPOE # 1439 are asked to meet at 5:30 pm for services.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:30 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, NY, with Rev. Justin Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
