Edward Gay, Sr. Obituary

Edward Addison Gay, Sr., age 93, of Mohawk, passed away September 4, 2025.

Ed was born September 1, 1932, in Little Falls. He married his wife, Elsie, in 1956 at the Herkimer Methodist Church and they had an amazing 63 years together full of love, light, laughter and family. Elsie passed away November 22, 2019.

Ed was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, where he was stationed at Osan from 1952 -1954. Ed was a career truck driver and mechanic.

Ed loved spending his time fixing things and looking for the next good deal on a car, camper, or tractor. He always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Ed and Elsie loved to camp together and enjoyed going on car rides to see what was happening around town. Ed was a constant, important presence in the life of his many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all the young people he took in under his wing over the years. He had a great ride through life, and he will be dearly missed, but we know we will see him again.

Ed is survived by his 5 children, who he loved very much: Mark Gay of Herkimer, Mellissa (affectionately called Susie) Pape of Stittville, Michele (Dennis) Austin of Fairfield, Marsha (Mark) Mikus of Mohawk, Edward (Jenifer) Gay, Jr. of North Port, Florida, and he was predeceased by his son, John. Ed is also survived by Rod (Kathy) Pierce of San Antonio, Texas, Cindy (Norm) Stark of Cold Brook, Mark Mikus of Mohawk, and the late Vanessa Havener, who were his nephew, nieces, and son-in-law he considered to be his own. Ed was Grandpa to 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Jennie Gay. He is survived by 4 brothers and 2 sisters and was predeceased by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Mohawk Cemetery, (in the village) at 11:00 am. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Ed’s name to Herkimer County Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407.
