Mohawk – Doris J. Bawolak, 82, of Mohawk (Town of German Flatts), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, with her family by her side.
She was born on November 16, 1941, in the Town of Minden, the daughter of the late Orlando and Bertha (Trask) Hazzard. Doris was educated in Fort Plain Schools.
Doris was last employed at the former Allegro Shoe Company in Little Falls, NY. For over 30 years, Doris was a sales representative for Avon.
She enjoyed frequenting the local bingo halls and casinos. Had a love of cooking, singing, dancing and loved to have her friends and family by her side.
Survivors include her beloved cat Jackass; her daughter, Betty Norton and husband Robert of Cherry Valley, NY; three sons, Roger Snell and wife Tammy of Clinton, William Snell and Austin Reals of Mohawk, and Steven Bawolak and Christine Cockett of Mohawk; two brothers, Darwin Hazzard and wife Bonnie of Fort Plain, Leland Hazzard and wife Carol of Fort Plain; stepchildren, Mike Bawolak of Cooperstown, Barbara and John Miller of Florida and Bonnie Bawolak of Ilion; seven grandchildren, Mary(John) Kohler of Richfield, Richard(Mickayla) Marriott of Richfield, Christina Snell of Herkimer, Matthew Snell of Mohawk, Christopher(Mariel) Snell of Collingswood, Emily Bawolak of Rome, Tyler Bawolak of Rome; seven great grandchildren, Jennifer(Jacob) Bilger, John Kohler, Matthew and Emily Snell, Makenzie Boardman, Korinne and Harrison Marriott; two great great grandchildren, Kaiden and Tanner Bilger; ; several step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Steven, and her companion Willard Belcher; eight brothers and three sisters, Ralph, George, Gordon, Leslie, David, Donnie, Charles, Ronald Hazzard, Mary Austin, Mildred Everson, Helen Teyber; four stepchildren, Linda, Stephanie, Willy, and Lisa.
A special thank you for the caretakers while she was in our care at home would like to be said to Robin Carr, Cindy Gage Latt, Austin Reals, and Tyler Marszel; Hospice nurses, Irene, Angela, and Judy. An extra special thank you to the entire teams of Hospice and Palliative Care, and the Abraham House of Rome.
Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. Burial will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00 am at Van Hornesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
