Doris Aney Obituary

Mohawk - Doris C. Aney, 88, of Mohawk, NY (Town of German Flatts), passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on March 4, 1934, in Ilion, NY the daughter of the late Duane and Edna (Farber) Aney, Sr. Doris was a graduate of Van Hornesville High School.

For 31 years, Doris worked for the Herkimer County Sheriff Department, and held the position of Deputy Sheriff when she retired.  Doris was very proud of her position with the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Department.  She loved to share stories of her time working there and never missed a chance to show off her badge.  Doris was an avid knitter and could make just about anything asked of her.  Doris especially enjoyed passing time by playing cards with her family and friends, particularly pitch.  She was always lucky, whether it was winning at bingo, the casino, or on her lottery scratch offs (lovingly referred to as raffle tickets by Doris).  In her last years, Doris became a flamingo connoisseur.  She proudly displayed her variety of flamingos all around her.

Doris loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to visit her children and grandchildren in different states.  She often took her grandchildren on trips with her.  She loved to reminisce about her frequent trips to the dog races with her grandsons.  Later in her life, Doris could be found traveling with her beloved canine companion of 17 years, Rocky.  Where she went, Rocky went too.

Doris will be fondly remembered as a sassy lady who spoke her mind, always had funny (and sometimes inappropriate)  sayings, and a grandma who would sneak gummy bears to her grandchildren at bedtime.  Doris was famous for her chocolate cookies and cinnamon bread.

Survivors include four daughters, Pandora (Penny) Watkins and husband Keith, Glenny Monahan and husband Jim, Melissa Tripolone and husband Tony and Lenora Wright and husband Steve; a son, Edward Casler; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brothers, George F. Aney and Lyle (Kathleen) Aney; sister-in-law, Jean Aney and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was pre-deceased by her twin brother, Duane Aney on March 10, 2021.

The family of Doris C. Aney would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Angela, Ann and Pastor Wally of Hospice for the exceptional care they provided.

A graveside service will take place later in the spring at a time to be announced at the Village of Mohawk Cemetery. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
