Donald A. Giffune

Donald Anthony Giffune (95), longtime resident of Herkimer, NY, peacefully passed away February 20, 2026, with his wife of 66 years, Lucy, by his side. 

 He is predeceased by his father and mother Jerry and Mary (Damanda) Giffune, his brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Peg, brother Joseph Giffune, his sister Geraldine and brother-in-law Al Calogero, his mother-in-law Mary Fazio, sisters and brothers in-law Corky Giammaria and Robert, Angelina Fiorentino and Sal, Delores Gardner and David, and Angelo Fazio. 

He is survived by his wife, Lucy and daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Luanne and Tim Miner, Mary and David Farber, and Tricia. His grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily (James), Elizabeth (Johnny), Ivy, Kyle, Michael, Karl, and Rocco; his great grandchildren Harper, Milo, and Johnny and many nieces and nephews. 

After his service in the US Army, Don was a teacher at the Herkimer Central School District for 37 years, an avid reader, an artist, and man of faith.  Faith, family, education, books, and a side of politics were common conversations.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations are given to The Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY 13501.  Burial services will be held in the spring for family and close friends. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets) 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500.
