Charles Hazzard Obituary

Fort Plain - Charles L. Hazzard, 79, of the Town of Minden, Fort Plain, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Friday July 10, 2020 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY.

He was born July 18, 1940 in Fordsbush, NY the son of the late Orlando and Bertha (Trask) Hazzard and was educated in Fort Plain schools.

His marriage to Leona M. Herringshaw took place on June 20, 1959 at the Fort Plain Lutheran Church.

Charlie was last employed as a truck driver for Teals' Express in Utica, NY. At one time he was employed at M & M Trucking and the former Palatine Dye Co.

Charlie's life was centered around his family, he was a loving and caring husband and brother, a doting father and grandfather. He cherished the quality time he spent with his loved ones. Charlie enjoyed traveling to the local casinos, testing his luck on the games. He was a people person and enjoyed the camaraderie of other people.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Leona; two daughters, Sarah M. Gray and husband Steve of Ephratah and Rachel L. Gay and husband Gary of Little Falls; two sons, Charles L. Hazzard, Jr., and companion Margaret of Temple, Texas and Bud H. Hazzard and wife Wendy of Canajoharie; six grandchildren, Stephen and Kolbe Gray, Heidi and Nick Kreider, A.J. Hazzard, Jessica and Jayson Smith, Sarah and Mace Phillips, and Gary Gay and companion Lauren; his great grandchildren, Stephen and Mason Gray, Micah Kreider, Mace and Grayson Phillips, Henry Gay and was happily awaiting the birth of his eighth great grandchild, Zayne Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Bawolak of Mohawk; three brothers, Darwin and Bonnie Hazzard of Fort Plain, Ronald Hazzard of St. Johnsville, and Leland and Carol Hazzard of Fort Plain;  and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his great granddaughter, Annalyse Hope Smith and several brothers and sisters.

In keeping with the COVID - 19 health restrictions, family visitation and burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Fordsbush will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, Y 518-568-7040.
