Catherine S. Flynn passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the age of 92. She lived a long life and will be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
She was born on October 21, 1933, in Little Falls, the beloved daughter to the late Thomas H. and Nettie (Larrison) Hartman. She was a graduate of Mohawk High School. She furthered her education at Marie, St Rose and Marist Colleges. She received a master’s degree in religious education from St. Michael’s in VT.
Catherine was with the Sisters of Mercy from 1954-1977 in the Albany and Sidney area, teaching 2nd grade and religious education as well as helping with other parish work. She returned to the local area in 1982 to care for her father. She then worked as a nurse’s aide until her retirement in 1986. Catherine was a hardworking and skilled painter, painting both the interior and exterior of homes from 2000-2004. She took great pride in her work and was known for her attention to detail.
On February 22,1986, Catherine was united in marriage to Robert Flynn at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer NY.
Catherine’s hobbies included painting both land and seascape pictures as well as sewing. She especially enjoyed attending Bible study with friends, which brought her great comfort, joy, and fellowship. She never missed a family birthday, and her loved ones could always count on receiving that special card every year, a small but cherished reminder of her love and thoughtfulness. She also loved capturing memories at family events, always ready with her camera or trusty flip phone to take photos that her family would treasure for years to come
She was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church, where her faith was an important and guiding part of her life.
Catherine will be fondly remembered by her family, friends, fellow parishioners, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of faith, devotion, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Catherine is survived by a large and loving family, including her nephews Tom Hartman (Pam), Jack Hartman (Venessa), Gary Hartman (Janice), Dan Hartman, Chris Smith and Mark Smith; nieces Linda Dzurinko (Ted), Gina Hartman, Donna Hartman; great-nieces, great-nephews; as well as numerous great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.
